(ECNS) -- Two experimental satellites were sent into low-Earth orbits by state-owned telecommunication operator China Mobile on Saturday to further test 5G- and 6G-related technology.
China Mobile 01 satellite, co-developed by China Mobile and Chinese satellite company UBINEXUS., is the world's first signal processing satellite equipped with a land-space 5G operating system.
The other verification satellite Xinghe, or Star Core, which was jointly developed by the Innovation Academy for Microsatellites of the Chinese Academy of Science, was loaded with the Xinghe 6G system, another milestone in China Mobile's progress in 6G technology.
The trial satellites have been placed into low-Earth orbit, positioned at an altitude of 500 kilometers. These satellites offer distinct advantages, such as reduced latency and increased data transmission speed, when contrasted with their high-orbit counterparts.
China Mobile has committed to persisting in low-Earth orbit satellite experiments, aiming to propel advancements in satellite-Earth technology and extend the reach of its mobile network to encompass inland regions, maritime expanses, and the aviation industry.
